Woman jumps from Memorial Bridge
An unidentified woman was flown by medical helicopter after she jumped from Memorial Bridge in Connellsville Saturday night. Officials said they believe the woman was attempting to kill herself when she jumped around 9 p.m. The woman landed on the ground in Yough Park, suffering serious injuries. Officials said the woman is believed to have suffered internal injuries and fractured legs.
She was semiconscious following the jump, but was unable to speak to emergency personnel, according to officials.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Connellsville Area High School and was then flown to an area hospital.
An update on the woman’s condition was not available as of deadline Saturday night.
According to witnesses driving on the bridge at the time, the woman was first seen along the railing in the northbound lane of the bridge, standing between the light post and the railing.
The witnesses said they turned around and crossed the bridge again and saw the woman had crossed over to the southbound lane and was hanging over the railing. When they turned around again and crossed the bridge again, they didn’t see the woman anymore and called 911.
Connellsville police are investigating the incident.
