Women and Girl’s Foundation offers grants to teens through regional program
The Women and Girls Foundation’s (WGF) Regional Change Agents program is offering a new grant opportunity for girls age 13 to 18 to make a change in their communities. The Regional Change Agents, a diverse group of 15 young women from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene and Washington counties, have been trusted with $20,000 in grant funds to distribute to girls wishing to implement programs impacting the lives of other girls in their own communities. “The Regional Change Agents grant opportunity is a chance for girls to provoke change in their community,” said Violet Lawson, 15, a teen participant from Washington County. “Not only can this program change the issues affecting girls in the community, but it can bring girls together to make it happen.”
Grant proposals must be submitted by groups of young women between the age of 13 and 18 who are working with an adult advisor and living in Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, or Washington county. Teens must be interested in breaking down gender stereotypes and creating new opportunities for girls in their respective counties. Examples of ideas or projects include encouraging community dialogues that challenge stereotypes, promoting unity and diversity in the female community and advocating for increased girls’ rights and opportunities in Allegheny, Fayette, Greene and Washington counties.
“This program will give girls the chance to make change,” said Kara Curry, 15, a teen participant from Greene County. “Girls should apply for the grants because their programs will improve the lives of other girls in their communities.”
A total of $5,000 in grant money is available for each county and teams may request up to $2,000 in support. The Regional Change Agents will review the grant proposals and make award decisions in November.
Regional Change Agents is an expansion of WGF’s Allegheny County Girls as Grantmakers program, in which a diverse group of 24 teen women were entrusted with $10,000 in grants to award to other young women who created programs benefiting girls in Allegheny County. Regional Change Agents is run by WGF with partnership and support from the Community Foundation of Greene County, the Community Foundation of Fayette County, and Washington Hospital Teen Outreach.
