Uniontown man waives charges to court

2 min read

A Uniontown man accused of recently assaulting an employee of a convenience store in South Union Township waived all charges against him to court Wednesday. Trooper Timothy Kirsch said William Henry Roane Jr., 42, of 12 Hortense St. was charged before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting Laverne Lewis of Uniontown. Roane waived all charges against him to Fayette County Court during a preliminary hearing before George on Wednesday.

Kirsch said the incident occurred at the Dairy Mart on Dixon Boulevard when Roane came into the store around 7 p.m. July 15. He also noted that Roane and Lewis had dated in the past.

Lewis told Kirsch that when she saw Roane enter the store, she asked him to leave, Kirsch said. Kirsch said that Roane initially did leave the store but said that he continued to come in and out of the store for several hours.

Lewis told investigators that she was walking toward the front door of the store around closing time when Roane punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground, Kirsch said.

Kirsch said that Roane then kicked her repeatedly.

Kirsch said Lewis suffered multiple injuries to her face, arms and upper body.
