John B. “Jim” Canada
John B. “Jim” Canada, 85, of Connellsville died Sunday, May 31, 2009. He was born November 23, 1923 in Dunbar Twp. a son of the late Joseph and Mary Robertello Canada.
Jim was a member of St. Rita R.C. Church. He was a miner in Leisenring 1 coal mines, then went on to work at and retire from Sterbutzel Tire. He was a World War II United States Army Veteran having served in Normandy, N. France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Eame Theatre Service Medal with six Bronze Stars and Victory Medal. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 21, Knights of Columbus and Independent Italian Club.
Jim is survived by one son, John A. Canada and wife, Sharon of Connellsville; two granddaughters: Nicole Jesko and husband, Chad and Dr. Gina Canada Kenney and husband, Jaison; three grandchildren: Chad and Evelyn Jesko and Ella Kenney all of Dunbar; a sister, Rose Canada Mariotti; a sister-in-law, Anna Mary Canada of Connellsville.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife, Grace Pilla Canada, four brothers, Joseph F. “Shack” Canada, Anthony Canada, Frank Canada and Mike Canada and an infant sister, Grace Canada.
Friends will be received in The VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St. West Side, Connellsville today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rita R.C. Church with Father Ron Cyktor, Jr. as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Rita Cemetery.
Military Rites will be conducted at the Cemetery by members of the American Legion Post 301, V.F.W. Post 21 and American Legion Post 762.
