Albert V. Ferrari
“A Devoted Family Man” Albert V. Ferrari, 87, of Fredericktown, PA, died Monday, June 08, 2009 in the Donnell House, Washington.
Mr. Ferrari was born on April 25, 1922 in Charleroi, PA., a son of the late Robert Ferrari Sr. and Cecelia Bijiux Ferrari.
On September 24, 1941 he married Norma Gail Lynn, who died on September 28, 1991, days after their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was a World War II Veteran who served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer and was stationed in the South Pacific.
Mr. Ferrari was a coal miner who worked for Republic Steel and spent 25 years at the Clyde Mine, from where he retired in 1980.
He was an outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, especially rabbit and deer hunting with his son. Tending to his garden was a pastime he took great pleasure in. During his later years, he took up dancing. Mr. Ferrari was quite the handy man who could fix nearly anything and he took great pride in he and his late wife’s home. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Ferrari attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Carmichaels, PA.
He was a member of the Frank Ricco Sons of Italy Lodge 731 in Brownsville, PA, AMVETS Post 0103, Hanson Cole American Legion Post 391 in Fredericktown, PA, and UMWA Local 688.
Surviving is one son, Gary V. Ferrari (Tina) of Frederick-town; two daughters: Gayle Lynn Crile (Paul) of Washington, PA and Brenda Devecka (David) of Clarksville, PA; one sister, Philomena DeFranks of Manassas, VA; four grandchildren: Christina Rae Crile, Andrea Lee Devecka, Gary V. Ferrari Jr. and Brittannee Rubin; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, is one daughter, Linda Ferrari Murphy; two brothers, Robert Ferrari Jr. and Ubert Ferrari and three sisters, Margaret Hogg, Marie Carl and Dolores Gray.
Friends will be received from 4-8 PM today and Thursday in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, June 12, 2009 with Pastor Jacqueline Campbell officiating.
The Frank Ricco Sons of Italy Lodge 731 Brownsville will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the Greene County Memorial Park Cemetery, Waynesburg.
Full graveside military rites will be accorded by the Hanson Cole American Legion Post 391.
