Fayette Chamber of Commerce seeks help with Independence Day event
The Fayette Chamber of Commerce is in need of a little help from its friends. Because of the economic downturn experienced throughout Fayette County, the chamber has had to face reality. It had to make decisions that will help keep the Community Independence Day Concert and Fireworks viable for this year and for years to come. As a result, the family-oriented event, scheduled for the area surrounding Uniontown Mall on June 28, is undergoing a transformation.
Steve Cooper, president of the chamber’s board of directors, stated in a press release, “We’ve made some changes this year, which were certainly not anticipated at the beginning of the planning stage.”
The chamber feels it has reached a reasonable conclusion.
It has eliminated the gate fee, so there will be no cost for the concert that begins at 6 p.m. and the fireworks display that has become a Fayette County tradition. There will be vendors on site with both food and drink for purchase.
But the chamber said it must still ask for help.
In an open letter from Muriel Nuttall, chamber executive director, she states, “Sponsorship dollars are needed to cover the cost of the downsized event. If you can help, your donation would be greatly appreciated.”
Donations can be mailed to Fayette Chamber, 65 W. Main St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or call 724-437-4571 to make arrangements.
Nuttall put out a call for volunteers to work the evening of the event.
Volunteers can call 724-437-4571 or e-mail Kathy Dowling at kdowling@fayettechamber.com.
“Let’s work together to make sure that this event is a success,” Nuttall said.
