Harold Hartley

Harold Hartley 74, of Brogue, Pa., passed away on June 16, 2009, in York Hospital, York, Pa. He was born on December 31, 1934, in Haines City, Florida, the son of the late Noah Minor Hartley and Mabel Groomes Hartley. He was married to the late Brenda Joyce Hartley.

Mr. Hartley was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in York, and the Brogue, Pa., Lion’s Club. He was also a lifetime member of the Carmichaels, Pa., Volunteer Fire Company.

He grew up and lived until 1979, in Greene County. Mr. Hartley was a Professor of Physics at Waynesburg College from 1964 to 1976, at which time, he became employed by the United States Steel Corporation. Having lived in Kentucky, Illinois, and Wyoming, Mr. Hartley returned to Pennsylvania, in 1995, when he retired from the Exxon Corporation.

He is survived by his son, David Hartley and wife Amy of Rockville, Md.; two sisters: Sarah (Sally) Glover and husband Thomas and Carol Jane Bain and husband Paul, both of Mt. Wolf, Pa.; and two grandchildren: Devin and Abigail Hartley at home; and companion, Priscilla McCaw-Jack of Brogue.

A celebration of his life will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of York, Pa., at 1502 Fourth Avenue, at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009.

Interment will be held on June 27, 2009, at 1 p.m. in Greene County Memorial Park Mausoleum , Waynesburg, Pa.
