CARMICHAELS – A Greensboro man charged over the past several months on multiple counts, including theft, forgery, writing bad checks and possessing drug paraphernalia, during four separate criminal incidents had all of his charges waived to court during a single preliminary hearing Wednesday. Nathan A. Roberts, 21, was charged by Cumberland Township Police officers and a detective from the Greene County District Attorney’s office on four separate occasions from February through June on various charges. All of the charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson. According to criminal complaints filed in Watson’s office, Roberts was charged on Feb. 23 with a misdemeanor count of writing a bad check. According to reports, Roberts wrote a bad check totaling $66 at Bobtown Market last November; Roberts was charged with the misdemeanor count because he had previously pleaded guilty to writing bad checks on two other occasions.

On June 1, he was arrested on two felony counts of theft following allegations that he stole two firearms from a Greensboro residence and then sold them.

According to court records, police received a report on May 10 that a 20-gauge Mossburg bolt action shotgun and a 12-gauge Iver Johnson single shot shotgun were stolen from the residence. The victim then reported that he suspected Roberts had stolen the firearms, the complaint states.

During their investigation, authorities interviewed Roberts, who admitted to removing the 20-gauge shotgun from the residence on April 23, taking it to a Parkview Knoll residence in Cumberland Township and selling it; he also said he took the 12-gauge shotgun the next day and sold it to a pawn shop in Westover, W.Va., police said.

He was arrested on June 3 on two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary count of disorderly conduct after being allegedly found at a residence in Cumberland Township with a hypodermic needle and a metal spoon used to ingest a controlled substance on April 3, according to court records.

Roberts was charged on June 4 on one felony count of forgery and one misdemeanor count each of access to device not authorized, criminal attempt and theft following an incident that allegedly occurred on June 1.

According to reports, Roberts was charged with taking a blank personal check from a woman known to him, forging her signature and attempting to cash the check for a total of $200.

When police questioned Roberts, he admitted that he stole the check and tried to cash it because he needed to pay court fines, the complaint states.

On Wednesday, a single preliminary hearing for all of the charges filed against Roberts was held before Watson. The charges in each case were waived for court.

Roberts remains in Greene County Jail in lieu of bail, which was set for each individual case. For the charges filed on Feb. 23, bail was set at $2,500 straight; for the June 1 charges, bail was set at $5,000 straight; for the June 3 charges, bail was set at $1,000 straight; and for the charges filed on June 4, bail was set at $10,000 straight.
