Local bands will be featured during Fun Fest

CONNELLSVILLE TWP. – A variety of music by local bands will rock the Geibel Catholic Middle/High School athletic field June 26 and 27 as the township fire department and the schools’ football booster organization offer their appreciation to area residents at Fun Fest ’09. “This event is a way to thank the community for all of their support,” said Connellsville Volunteer Fire Department member and event co-chairman Dwayne Krumanacker. The festival will feature several new events, including a Battle of the Bands for groups under the age of 18 and over 18, and a pyro-musical.

Krumanacker explained that the pyro-musical brings together a fireworks display with music.

“We’re going to use AC/DC’s ‘Are You Ready For A Good Time,’ for the Friday night show,” he said. “It won’t be something that you can see from the road like our big display on Saturday, but it is going to be different; similar to what they do in Pittsburgh, but low level.”

The Fun Fest begins at 4 p.m. Friday with a car, truck and bike show sponsored by Special Touch Auto Body & Custom of Connellsville and a local disc jockey providing musical entertainment.

Area groups “Black Out,” “Dry Mouth” and “Gina” will compete in the under 18 Battle of the Bands followed by musical performances by Priscilla Penn and the “Leafs.”

The pyro-musical will follow the performances.

On Saturday, the festival will begin at 4 p.m. with a firemen’s parade having four bands, “The R4 Project,” “Girls in Black Hats,” “The Junk” and “One Way Street,” competing in the over 18 Battle of the Bands.

The musical group “Burning Earth” will present a concert at 8:30 p.m.

The festivities will conclude with a fireworks display sponsored by the Connellsville Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

“This will be the biggest, most spectacular fireworks display in the Fay-West area,” said Krumanacker.

Both days there will be games of chance, children’s games and a variety of food for attendees.

There is no cost to attend the concerts and parking at the sports complex is free. The Connellsville Township VFD and the Geibel Catholic Food Boosters will co-host Fun Fest ?09 on Friday and Saturday at the Geibel Catholic Middle/High School athletic field. Planning for the event are (from left) Fun Fest committee members Bob Lieberger, John Urosek, Dawna Krumanacker and Dwayne Krumanacker; and Erin Krumanacker standing on the fire truck.
