Andrew Torbich
Andrew Torbich, 82, of Nilan Hill, Point Marion, Pa., passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 in the Lake West Hospital, Willoughby, Ohio. Born Feb. 12, 1927 in Springhill Township, he was a son of the late Frank and Bertha Luchina Torbich.
A 20 year U.S. Navy veteran, Andy served his country honorably during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, until his retirement in 1965. He then sailed for a while with the Merchant Marines. Andy attended the Point Marion High School, held memberships in St. Hubert’s R.C. Church, F.O.E. 1932 and the American Legion Post 499, all of Point Marion. He was especially active in and Past Commander of the V.F.W. Post 747 in Point Marion, where for many years he arranged the funeral and burial detail for area veterans.
Surviving are his two sisters: Ann Zebkar of Wickliffe, Ohio, and Mrs. Lou (Julia) Kensek of Boardman, Ohio; a nephew, George “Joe” Zebkar, and three nieces: Barbara Herringshaw, Alberta Rittner and Kimberly Salpetra.
Predeceased are three brothers, John, Paul, and George Torbich, and two nephews, Ronald and John Torbich.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m., and Friday until 11 a.m., the hour of a Blessing Service, with Rev. Father Andrew Kawecki officiating.
Interment, with full Military Honors by the Point Marion Veterans Posts, follows in the Little Arlington Section of Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
