A Carmichaels woman who suffered severe injuries in a traffic accident April 5 in Maryland that killed two other Greene County men has died. Officials said Kaitlyn Marie Machesky, 23, died Thursday, May 7 in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., from injuries she suffered in the crash. Machesky was traveling with four Greene County residents in Maryland when the car overturned into a lake, officials said.

The driver of the car, Blake Kelley, 24, of Mt. Morris, and a passenger, Kenneth Opfer, 29, of Garards Fort, were both killed in the crash.

Police said Kelley was traveling westbound on Sang Run Road in McHenry. Md., at about 12:45 a.m. when the 2006 Mercedes he was driving failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road and overturned in a pond.

Police said passengers Erin Hurley, 22, of Waynesburg and Jason Witt, 25, of Dilliner escaped the vehicle but Kelley, Opfer and Machesky were trapped inside.

Two Maryland state police troopers responded to the accident scene, went into the pond and pulled out Machesky, according to reports. Police said fire department and rescue squad personnel arrived and freed Kelly and Opfer.

Kelley, Opfer, Machesky and Hurley were taken to Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md., where Kelley and Opfer were pronounced dead.

Machesky was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital following the accident, police said.
