Applications being accepted for volunteer program
WAYNESBURG – Southwest Regional Medical Center recently announced that it is accepting applications for the junior volunteer program. Youth between the ages of 14-18 are eligible to apply for participation in the summer of 2009 session. Last year, 14 students were selected to participate in the program. Volunteers perform a variety of functions to benefit patients, visitors and employees. All junior volunteers will be mentored by a senior volunteer or a Southwest Regional staff member. Junior volunteers can choose to serve in the following ways:
n A Cherry Door volunteer waits on customers, hang and shelve items and sort donations. The Cherry Door is located on High Street in Waynesburg and is operated by The Auxiliary of Southwest Regional Medical Center.
n An escort may transport patients to designated departments for testing, deliver newspapers, deliver mail and flowers to patients and transport discharged patients to their vehicles. Escorts also deliver materials throughout the hospital and provide customer service for our visitors. Escorts may offer book cart service to patients, which include a variety of books, magazines and word puzzles.
n Candy stripers may also transport patients throughout the hospital or deliver flowers and other materials.
n An office helper will help to complete office tasks such as filing, preparing mailings, and delivering materials throughout the hospital.
For students who need to complete community service hours, a senior project or other community service requirements, hours of service can be verified for submission.
