Everyone into the Greene County pools!
Greene County’s three pools opened for the summer on Saturday and the county Department of Recreation will offer swimming lessons starting in June in Waynesburg and Carmichaels. The lessons will be offered for $20 a class at the Foundation Coal Family Aquatic Center in Waynesburg and Carmichaels Pool in Carmichaels. Various classes are available for swimmers of different skill levels.
Class instructors will determine swimmer class placement.
Sign-ups for swim lessons will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the aquatic center and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Carmichaels Pool.
Payment will be due at the time of signup. Checks should be made payable to “County of Greene.” A minimum of five swimmers is required for each class and the maximum number of swimmers for each class is 15 swimmers.
The schedule of classes for the two sites is:
June 22 to July 3, 9 to 10 a.m., level six, and 10 to 11 a.m., levels four and five; July 6 to 10, 9 to 10 a.m., level three, and 10 to 11 a.m., levels one and two; July 13 to 17, 9 to 10 a.m., level three, 10 to 11 a.m., levels one and two, and 11 to 11:30 a.m., preschool level; July 20 to 24, 9 to 11 a.m., levels four, five and six; and Aug. 3 to 7, 9 to 10 a.m., level three, and 10 to 11 a.m., levels one and two.
Admission prices at the aquatic center are $5 for children ages 17 and younger and senior citizens ages 62 and older, and $7 for adults ages 18 to 61. Aquatic center hours are noon to 7 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
For Carmichaels Pool, admission is $3 for children ages 17 and younger and senior citizens ages 62 and older, and $5 for adults ages 18 to 61. Carmichaels Pool hours are 1 to 7 p.m. daily.
At the third county-owned pool, Mon View Pool in Greensboro, admission is $2 for children ages 17 and younger and senior citizens ages 62 and older, and $4 for adults ages 18 to 61. The pool will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. only on weekends throughout the summer, but will be open daily while the summer Day Camp program is in session from June 22 to July 31.
Active-duty military personnel and their immediate families may swim for free at any of the pools under a resolution passed in July by the Greene County commissioners. Military members must bring their military identification cards to receive passes.
All pools will remain open until Labor Day, Sept. 7, although hours are subject to change in the event of inclement weather.
