West Brownsville sewerage project could cost $527,000
WEST BROWNSVILLE – A special meeting was held Thursday evening by the West Brownsville Borough Council to discuss the cost of catch basins and storm drains that need to be replaced along the entire length of Middle Street. After council President Dan Kendall attended a recent meeting with Center West Sewage Authority and its engineer Glen Wolfe regarding the upcoming sewerage project, it was determined that the catch basins and storm drains should be replaced after the sewerage project is completed.
Kendall stated that Wolfe informed him that the contractor for the Center West sewerage project should also complete the drain work, which would be more cost-effective and efficient.
“There’s no reason to do double the work by having to redig and resurface the street if using a second contractor,” Kendall said.
Estimated cost to replace the catch basins and storm drains on Middle Street is $527,000.
A portion of the Center West funding can be used to fill and pave the ditch once the work is complete on Middle Street.
The estimated price of that job is $176,970.
Council agreed to seek funding for the storm drain project by applying to Washington County for grant funding.
Elsewhere, Mayor Martin Brockman informed council that he is seeking estimates on the renovation of the playground in Blainesburg and would like to move the Main Street playground to Liberty Street.
Brockman indicated that the reason for moving the Main Street playground is for safety concerns of the children, being that the playground is located directly beneath the Lane-Bane Bridge and if debris happens to fall from the bridge or vehicles traveling the bridge, he would not want to see innocent bystanders injured.
The next regularly scheduled monthly council meeting is Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the borough’s municipal building.
