Studies being conducted for sewer system
By Christine Haines REDSTONE TWP. – Archeological and wetland studies are being conducted for the expansion of the Redstone Township sewer system. The Redstone Township Sewer Authority is in the planning stages of expanding service to Herbert, Filbert, Orient, Thompson and area of Routes 166 and 40. As part of that planning, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program requires wetland studies while the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission requires the archeological study.
Don Reho of Widmer Engineering said both studies are currently being conducted. Reho said only one pump station is located near a wetland.
“We may have to move it a little bit to get away from the wetland,” Reho told the authority members Monday.
Reho said the archeologist conducting the study has driven through the project area eliminating those portions of the project that have already been disturbed by road construction or other activities from the study.
“He was then able to reduce the cost from about $20,000 to about $12,000,” Reho said.
In other matters, the authority members approved a proposed lease agreement for renting office space to the Redstone Township tax collector. The four-year lease includes all utilities except telephone and Internet, with the rent set at $425/month. Plans to renovate the office space to separate the tax office from the authority office are still being drafted.
The authority is still reviewing a proposed lease agreement for the upstairs apartment. Action on that proposal was tabled until December. It was reported that final renovations, including painting and work on the cupboards, are being made at the apartment.
