Incumbents prevail in nine contested tax collector races
In nine contested tax collector races held in Fayette County during the Tuesday general election, the incumbents prevailed in each of the races, according to unofficial tallies. The closest race was in Connellsville Township, where Republican Andrea D. Doppelheuer defeated Democrat Daralynn Gilpin by a margin of 273 votes to 191 votes. Tallies released give Doppelheuer 59 percent of the vote.
Until county officials certify the vote, all results are unofficial. Tax collectors serve four-year terms.

n In Bullskin Township, Democrat Louis Bell defeated Republican Ginny Martin. Bell had 1,037 votes to Martin’s 380 votes.
n In North Union Township, James M. Mari received 1,323 votes to Republican Verna A. Martin’s 609 votes.
n In Perryopolis, Democrat Irene E. Smith received 303 votes to Republican Debra R. Tidholm’s 122 votes.
n In Saltlick Township, Democrat Shari R. Bukovac received 390 votes to Republican Steve Nietfeld’s 98 votes.
n In South Union Township, Democrat Gretchen Ciaramella received 1,760 votes to Republican Roberta Rishel’s 596 votes.
n In Springfield Township, Democrat Virginia Bowser received 360 votes to Republican John Richard Anderson’s 122 votes.
n In Washington Township, Democrat Mary Misher Yonash received 544 votes to Republican Diane M. Roberts’ 331 votes.
n In Wharton Township, Republican Tina Dennis received 713 votes to Democrat Jennifer Fike’s 150 votes.
