Wilma M. Cochran Ramsey
Wilma M. Cochran Ramsey, age 92, of New Port Richey, Florida passed away on Monday, November 3, 2009 after a brief illness. Born September 25, 1917 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, Wilma was the daughter of Gay Cochran and Emma Riggs Cochran.
Wilma married Carl Ramsey in 1939 and they moved to Washington, D.C. where they began their first of many successful business ventures.
In 1955, they moved to Smithfield, Pennsylvania and bought a Chevy dealership in Point Marion, Pennsylvania.
In 1957, they opened the Carl Ramsey Chevrolet in Brownsville, Pennsylvania and operated that business for almost 30 years.
After Carl’s death, Wilma moved to Florida where she continued using her business skill in real estate ventures.
Wilma was a truly remarkable lady who enjoyed helping others.
She loved family, animals, flowers, puzzles, crocheting. In the last few years she crocheted and donated over 100 lap robes to the veterans and nursing homes.
In addition to her husband, Wilma was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Barbara Jane Stephenson; one brother and five sisters.
She is survived by one brother, Gerald Cochran and his wife Daisy of Buckhannon, West Virginia; one son-in-law, James L. “Pete” Stephenson, one grandson, James Carl Stephenson, and two great grandchildren, Charles J. Stephenson and Cecelia W. Stephenson all of New Port Richey, Florida; several nieces and nephews; and very special care giver, Doris Courdt.
Family will receive Friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at TOMBLYN WHITESCARVER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Route 6, Box 429, Buckhannon, WV 26201 (304.472.2311). Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard McGuire officiating.
Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery, Buckhannon, West Virginia.
