Area National City Bank offices turn into PNC starting Monday

By James Pletcher Jr. 3 min read

What began as Gallatin National Bank and through mergers became National City Bank will disappear on Monday, also due to merger. PNC Bank will unveil its own brand signage on former National City offices throughout Fayette and surrounding counties, completing a merger that began in October 2008.

Jim Balouris, PNC regional retail banking manager, explained National City offices were closed over the weekend to allow for the change.

“The signs are already there. All we have to do is remove the bags covering them. Inside, the branches are already merchandised with PNC fixtures,” he said.

Offices in this region that will reopen Monday as PNC Banks include branches in Belle Vernon, Carmichaels, Mount Morris, Rostraver, Scottdale, Tri-County Plaza and Waynesburg.

Offices in Fayette County are in Connellsville, where a National City and PNC Bank are being consolidated into one PNC Bank; Connellsville Shopping Center, Fayette Crossing, where National City had built a new bank, Hopwood, Masontown, New Salem, Brownsville, Perryopolis, and Uniontown Shopping Center.

National City customers have been notified of changes that will occur in their individual accounts, as well as services PNC Bank offers.

“Both banks are very similar,” Balouris said.

“One of the advantages we will have is an extended branch network and ATMs. In Fayette, Greene and Westmoreland counties, we picked up a bunch of new offices so there will be a PNC Bank just about anywhere for our customers to use,” he said.

A product PNC Bank will offer is its Virtual Wallet program, where customers can have accounts for spending, earning and growth.

“We are also keeping National City’s credit card platform where they offered points to customers. Points they already have will be honored and they can gain more,” Balouris said.

National City mortgages will be rebranded as PNC mortgages “and we will be able to offer more mortgage products throughout the system,” he said.

“The biggest thing is that if anyone has questions, he can come into any of the branches and we will be more than happy to help him,” Balouris said. During the weekend, customers can use any National City or PNC ATM to access their checking, savings and money market accounts during the conversion. However, updated balance information at the ATM will not be available until Monday morning. Customers should call PNC at 1-877-762-5570 for assistance. The National City Telephone Banking number became unavailable at 3 p.m. Friday. Offices closed at 4 p.m. Friday to begin the changeover. Beginning Monday, the following services will be available: n 6 a.m.

Automated PNC telephone banking at 1-877-762-5570. n 7 a.m.

to 10 p.m. Customers should call PNC at 1-877-762-5570 for assistance. n 8 a.m.

PNC online banking and mobile banking will be available.

When PNC opens on Monday, customers will be able to do business at any of the more than 1,500 PNC Bank branches in 15 states.

In October 2008, PNC Financial Services Group Inc. announced plans to buy National City Bank for $5.2 billion in stock. As a result of the acquisition, PNC will become the fifth largest bank in the nation, with about $289 billion in assets and about $180 billion in total deposits.
