0000365044-01-1.jpg Edward E. Zimmerlink, 81, of Greensburg, died Sunday November 8, 2009 in Excela Health and Hospice Center, Jeannette Hospital after a stay at UPMC Trauma ICU. He was born October 12, 1928 in Allison 1, PA, son of the late Joseph and Anna Zimmerlink.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Anastasia Zeek Zimmerlink in November 2003 and by an older brother, Joseph (Jess) Zimmerlink.

He is survived by six children: Valerie Yengst and husband, Charles of San Diego; Edward Zimmerlink, Mike Zimmerlink, Cynthia Mirigliano and husband, Frank, Renee Hertzog and Patrick Zimmerlink and wife, Tracy Rush all of Greensburg; nine grandchildren: Eric and Jason Yengst of San Diego, Colter Zimmerlink of Kansas City, MO, Michael Zimmerlink of Santee, CA, Isaac and Benjamin Hertzog of Greensburg, and Katherine, Abigail and Vincent Mirigliano of Greensburg; and three great-grandchildren: Echelle and Isabella Yengst of Chandler, Oklahoma and Lyla Zimmerlink of Kansas City, MO; brothers: Thomas and Betty Zimmerlink of Allison, Gene and Sally Zimmerlink of Milltown, NJ; and sisters: Ann Wilson of Brownsville, PA and Margaret Smith and husband, Francis of Lake Orion, MI and Chandler, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served 1951-1953 in the U.S. and southern Germany as a telecommunications specialist, during which time he was also a member of the V Corps Basketball Champions. He was formerly employed by Brownsville Hardware, Bortz Hardware in Greensburg, and was retired from Charles M. Henry Printing Company of Greensburg. He was inducted in 1988 into the Big Ten Fayette County Baseball Hall of Fame “as one of the greatest sandlot players of all time” and was a well-known softball umpire in the Greensburg area. It was often said he never made a bad call. He said this many times.
