Gaming day set

In brief… Teen game night will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels. Game night is a program for teens that allows them complete access to the library’s computers to play online games.

The Wii will also be available. Refreshments will be provided.

The library is celebrating National Gaming Day from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

There will be new family board games throughout the library and light refreshments.

Seat checkup set

State police in Greene County will host a free child restraint system checkup at the Franklin Township Fire Hall on Willow Road in Franklin Township.

The checkup is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 16.

Certified child restraint technicians will be on hand to check safety seats, ensure proper seat installment and check for recalls and defects.

All interested residents are invited to attend.

Drive concludes

The southwestern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross is concluding the Fayette County Disaster Volunteer Drive today with a volunteer orientation for new members at the Red Cross office on Morgantown Street in Uniontown.

Red Cross officials said the drive is specifically targeting disaster volunteers for Fayette County because of a critical shortage.

The volunteers travel to the scenes of disasters in Fayette County, including fires and floods, and assist victims with essential needs such as food, clothing and shelter.

The orientations will be held throughout the day.

Closures announced

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission alerts motorists that construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway Uniontown to Brownsville project will require a nighttime closure with detour, on Route 119 north and south. The closure will occur 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday This week and next week.

The general contractor, Walsh Construction, will close the lanes for the erection of steel girders over Route 119.

This work is part of second phase construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway between Uniontown and Brownsville.

Traffic moving southbound on Route 119 will be detoured around the construction zone via the Route 51 exit ramp and back onto the Route 119 south entry ramp from Route 51.

Northbound traffic on Route 119 will follow the detour via the Route 51 exit ramp and back onto the Route 119 north entry ramp from Route 51.
