By The 1 min read

A South Connellsville man and woman were transported by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after the vehicle they were riding in hit a curb and traveled across the roadway before hitting a wall and striking a utility pole shortly before 1 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Pittsburgh Street in the borough. Chief Kevin Grippo of the South Connellsville Police Department identified the people as Kaitlyn DeWitt, 19, and Nicholas Shirey, 21, both of 2119 2nd Street.

Rick Adobato, Fayette EMS Chief, said DeWitt and Shirey each suffered leg and hip injuries while Shirey had to be extricated.

South Connellsville Borough Police and Fayette EMS responded to the scene assisted by Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Co. and the Connellsville Police Department.

UPMC hospital officials would not release the conditions of DeWitt and Shirey Tuesday.
