Uniontown’s Walker closing on leaders
The co-leaders remain the same, but Uniontown’s Arnold Walker is closing fast in the Herald-Standard Touchdown Club rankings. Neither of the co-leaders – Carmichaels’ Anthonie Farrar and Jefferson-Morgan’s Ryan Knight – crossed the goal line during playoff losses last Friday. They ended their seasons with 108 points each. Knight scored 18 touchdowns and Farrar had 17 plus three two-point conversions.
Walker scored a touchdown in Uniontown’s 21-20 win over Belle Vernon to boost his scoring total to 102 points on 17 touchdowns. He has a chance to forge a three-way tie or take the lead when the Red Raiders take on Hampton Friday night at Yough High School in a WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinal.
California’s D.J. Martinak remains fourth with 92 points, while Belle Vernon’s Matt Green moved into the top five with a pair of touchdowns in the Leopards’ one-point loss at Uniontown. Green’s season included 14 touchdowns, good for 84 points.
The second five consists of Mapletown’s Jarrett Porterfield (82), Albert Gallatin’s Grayling Sanders (80), Beth-Center’s Deshan Brown (76), Geibel Catholic’s Christian Henckel (72) and Frazier’s Chase Kirmeyer (82). Brown has a chance to move up in the rankings when the Bulldogs travel to Beaver High School Friday to take on Laurel in a Class A quarterfinal game.
The only other battle for Touchdown Club rankings is between Beth-Center’s Kyle Colborn and Uniontown’s Luke Mosco. They will battle at different sites to become the top scorer among kickers, although either one could score a touchdown. Colborn already has one touchdown to go with his two field goals and 28 extra points for 40 total points. Mosco is Uniontown’s quarterback and kicker. He has two field goals and 31 successful extra point tries for 37 points.
