Josephine J. “Jay” Shaw
0000365360-01-1.jpg Josephine J. “Jay” Shaw, 91, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 12, 2009 at her home while surrounded and comforted by her loving family. She was born September 9, 1918 in Dunbar Twp., a daughter of the late Carmine “Carl” and Maria Quaiarelli Sanzone.
Jay was a lifelong resident of the Connellsville area and a graduate of the former Dunbar Twp. High School.
She was a member of St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church and the Sons of Italy Ladies Lodge. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and was a avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Jay was a loving homemaker, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed the company of her family. She loved to cook and bake and her family enjoyed many Sunday dinners at her home.
She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving children: Sandra DeSimone and husband Louis of Connellsville and granddaughter Danielle Dunbar and husband Jason of Maryland, Francis Shaw and wife Cindy of Dickerson Run and grandson Michael Shaw of Dickerson Run, and Lucinda “Cindy” Grego and husband Michael of Connellsville, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Jay was predeceased by her husband Roger D. Shaw in 1973, her sisters Julia Sanzone, Jane Fasson and husband John, and Rose Nevi and husband John “Perry”, and her brothers John “Pep” Sanzone and wife Jane, Rocco “Puffy” Sanzone and wife Mary, and Michael Sanzone and wife Margaret, and 2 infant brothers. Jay was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Family and friends will be received Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St. Connellsville, where Prayers of Transition will be held Monday at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., in St. Rita’s R. C. Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Joseph Bonafed as celebrant.
A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
