0000365482-01-1.jpg John Thomas Herchko, age 88, of Dunbar, Pennsylvania died on Thursday, November 12, 2009 in Uniontown Hospital. Born April 14, 1921 in Trotter, Fayette County, Pennsyl-vania, John was the son of Joseph Herchko and Susan (Vozar) Herchko.

John was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army.

Prior to his retirement, John was employed as a Foreman at the now former Anchor Hocking Cap Plant in South Connellsville, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Dunbar where he served as an Usher and was a member of The Holy Name Society.

He was a member of the Independent Slovak Citizen’s Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 21.

John was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 48 years, Angeline M. (Caruso) Herchko in 2006; three sisters: Margaret Herchko, Veronica Blanish and Anna Coplin; and two brothers: Albert Herchko and Paul Herchko.

He will be greatly missed by his children: David Herchko and his wife Kathy of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Rosanne Maher and husband Jeffrey of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, John P. Herchko of Dunbar; seven grandchildren: Derek, Drew and Davis Herchko, Jade and Joshua Maher, Johnathan and Emily Herchko; six sisters: Mary (Mayme) Speeney, Julie Goretsky and Catherine Lowe and her husband Dick all of Trotter, Pennsylvania, Helen Hesslau of Chicago, Stephanie Williams of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Bernadine Lafko and her husband Joe of Perryopolis, Pennsylvania; one brother, Edward Herchko of Connellsville, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law, Patrick Caruso of Michigan; one sister-in-law, Jo McCune of Dunbar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive Friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 North Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville, where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 9:30 a.m.

Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Ranch Road, Dunbar, with Rev. Monsignor J. Edward McCullough as the Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pennsylvania with Full Military Rites accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 21 and American Legion Posts 301 and 762.

The Parish Rosary will be recited in the Funeral Home today at 6 p.m.

John was an avid sports fan and regular blood donor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Red Cross.

Visitation was also held on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
