DUNBAR – Borough council is not planning a tax increase for 2010 after the proposed budget revealed an even balance of $238,108 in revenue and expenses. Taxes in the borough are set at 1.665 mills.

Council reviewed next year’s spending plan earlier this month, with $79,911 estimated as the largest revenue source generated from housing rental income.

According to Tammy Nedrow, borough secretary, the borough owns and maintains about 18 rental properties purchased through approval by former council members a number of years ago.

Additionally, the borough expects to receive $31,000 in real estate taxes, $55,000 in earned income tax, $12,100 in cable franchise fees, $3,150 in fines and forfeits, $4,800 in state shared revenue and $5,100 under special grants.

The bulk of expenses fell under various salaries that include $2,790 for the seven council members and $540 for the mayor for the year.

The secretary/treasurer’s salary was budgeted at $16,456, followed by the police department salaries for officers at $2,403 while engineering fees came in at $1,178.

For animal control, the borough will continue to pay $50 per month along with $10 per month for comfort station supplies for the new Sheepskin Trail and $12 per hour for cleaning there at 2 hours a week.

Under public works, the salary of the street foreman was set at $10,869 and other staff salaries at $9.25 per hour.

Council will adopt the final budget at its regular meeting Dec. 21.
