Wharton supervisors OK proposed budget
Wharton Township supervisors on Monday approved a proposed $1.17 million budget that does not include a property tax increase for next year. The spending plan maintains the current real estate tax rate of .347 mills.
Based on that millage, taxes on a property with an assessed value of $100,000 would be $34.70 and taxes on a $50,000 property would be $17.35.
Revenue from all taxes is projected at $587,531, total revenue is $879,951 and assets total $891,018.
Expenditures total $1,179,823, including $676,520 for highways and street and $307,982 for insurances.
Supervisors will consider final adoption of the budget at their next meeting on Dec. 21.
In other business, supervisors said the state Department of Transportation will lower the speed limit on Route 40 from the traffic signal at Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road to Old Dinner Bell Road to 45 mph from 55 mph in mid-December.
PennDOT recently completed a traffic study on the highway and determined that the speed limit should be reduced, supervisors said, adding that there have been several accidents on that stretch of the road.
Also, the supervisors invited residents to attend the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department’s annual light-up night celebration at the municipal building at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4. Festivities include the lighting of the township Christmas tree, a bonfire, a visit from Santa Claus and refreshments.
