Three share Herald-Standard Touchdown Club honors
Arnold Walker scored a touchdown in Uniontown’s playoff loss to Hampton last Friday to cause a three-way tie atop the Herald-Standard Touchdown Club rankings. Walker crossed the goal line for the 18th time this season to give him 108 points. He forged a tie with Carmichaels’ Anthonie Farrar, who had 17 touchdowns and three two-point conversions for the Mikes, and Jefferson-Morgan’s Ryan Knight, who had 18 touchdowns for the Rockets.
For their efforts, each player will receive a trophy and each player will have his name engraved on the Herald-Standard Touchdown Club’s traveling plaque. The plaque is supposed to be displayed in the trophy case of the winner’s school for the next year, so an alternative plan will be devised so each of the three schools involved will get a chance to display the plaque.
Knight is the second JM player to win the award, joining Justin Falcon who won two seasons ago. Farrar is the first Carmichaels player to win the award, while Walker became not only Uniontown’s first recipient, but also the first Fayette County football player to emerge as a leading scorer among area teams.
Previous winners are Mapletown’s Ryan Geisel, Waynesburg Central’s Troy Cree, Falcon and Beth-Center’s Joshua Lockett.
California’s D.J. Martinak finished fourth with 92 points and Belle Vernon’s Matt Green was fifth with 84. Tied for sixth are Beth-Center’s Deshan Brown, who scored a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ playoff loss to Laurel, and Mapletown’s Jarrett Porterfield, both with 82 points.
Eighth place belongs to Albert Gallatin’s Grayling Sanders with 80 points, while Geibel Catholic’s Christian Henckel and Frazier’s Chase Kirmeyer round out the top 10 with 72 points each.
Top scorers among kickers are Beth-Center’s Kyle Colborn with 41 points, Uniontown’s Lucas Mosco with 39, Belle Vernon’s Joey Walko with 38 and Jefferson-Morgan’s Taylor Barchiesi with 36. Colborn and Barchiesi each scored a touchdown to bolster their scoring numbers.
Four underclassmen who made the top 10 this season are frontrunners for next season’s Touchdown Club award. They are BVA’s Green, a junior; BC’s Brown, a sophomore; AG’s Sanders, a junior, and the Gators’ Henckel, a junior.
