California advanced in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament by sweeping Chowan (N.C.) Thursday at Hamer Hall. Joanna Nist had a team-high 12 kills on .556 hitting percentage to lead the Vulcans (34-5). Ludmila Amaral had 10 kills with a .833 hitting percentage.

Ashley Moore had nine kills and three service aces as Julie Paronish posted seven digs and two service aces.

Chowan finished the season with a 29-9 record.

California faces Wheeling Jesuit today in the second round at Hamer Hall for a 7:30 p.m. start. Wheeling Jesuit advanced by sweeping Gannon 3-0.

In other first round action, Ediboro rallied to defeat Clairton 3-2 and Lock Haven downed Mercyhurst 3-1.
