Atlantic Broadband renews offer of free services to military families
UNIONTOWN – Atlantic Broadband is looking to thank local military families for their ongoing sacrifices by providing them a communications lifeline to their loved ones overseas. Through its “Operation Mail Call” public service project, Atlantic Broadband is reaching out to local families with loved ones serving in the Persian Gulf or Afghanistan war zones with its offer of free high-speed Internet service to help them stay in touch, 24/7.
“Through Operation Mail Call, families here can exchange email and instant messages with their loved ones any time of the day or night, and our high-speed broadband service makes it possible to share family photos, video and even their children’s drawings, or to talk face to face via video chat with a web cam,” David Dane, Atlantic Broadband senior vice president and general manager, said.
Since Atlantic Broadband launched Operation Mail Call, nearly 200 military families in the company’s East Coast service area have taken advantage of the free Internet service.
Atlantic Broadband recently helped sponsor a welcome home party in Altoona for the local members of the National Guard’s 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team returning from Iraq. In addition, the company is readying a new series of public service announcements that will run on a wide range of cable networks in an effort to find more military families that could take advantage of the Operation Mail Call program.
Those eligible to receive free Internet service through Operation Mail Call are customer households with an immediate family member stationed in either the Persian Gulf or Afghanistan war zone/support area. They get Atlantic Broadband’s Preferred High-Speed Internet service with up to five e-mail accounts, as well as a free cable modem, installation and maintenance. To get the service, customers may call Atlantic Broadband at 888-536-9600. Atlantic Broadband serves more than 150,000 customers in central and northern Pennsylvania. Its regional headquarters are in Johnstown, with additional customer service and technical support facilities in Altoona. It has a local office in Uniontown.
