William James Downey
William James Downey, 75 of Connellsville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2009 in Latrobe Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 9, 1934 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late James P. and Dorothy (Pifer) Downey.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception R. C. Church. He was formerly employed as a clerk for P & L.E. Railroad for several years and later on by Modulus Corp.
Bill was a social member of the Sons of Italy and Knights of Columbus in Connellsville. He was a coin collector, avid reader and a model train enthusiast.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Louise (Mongell) Downey; two sons: James W. Downey of Connellsville and Patrick M. Downey and wife Julie of Dunbar Township; two daughters: Lori Ann Lohr and husband Rick of Youngwood and Jennifer M. Downey of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren: Scott, Steven and Stephanie Downey, Brian, Jason and Emily Lohr; two step-grandchildren: James and Kristin Valentovich.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 South First Street, West Side, Connellsville.
A Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church with Father Joseph Bonafed as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fayette Association for the Blind.
