George A. Kanyok

George A. “Headquarters” Kanyok, 70, of Brownsville, Pa., passed away Monday, November 23, 2009, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was born August 14, 1939 in Uniontown, Pa., a son of the late George Kanyok and Mary Ercegovic Kanyok.

George was a member of the Church of the Madonna, Cardale, Pa., retired Director of Labor and Education from United Food and Commercial Workers of America, he was also an inventor and entrepreneur.

George will be greatly missed by family in-laws, he went out of his way to take care of his family with his advice and guidance. George was an avid golfer and he enjoyed working around the house.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Kanyok and his parents.

Surviving are his loving wife of forty three years, Beverly Gondek Kanyok; three sons who George was proud of their service in the military, Mark Kanyok of Ohiopyle, Pa., David Kanyok and wife, Carlynn of Vanderbilt, Pa., and Joseph Kanyok and Katrina of Bethlehem, Pa.; sister, Mary Jane Kanyok of Uniontown, Pa. and Nancy Abbott and husband Darwin of Manhattan, Kansas; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be relieved in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME, 19 Legion Street, Republic, Pa., on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. and Saturday until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held. A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Madonna, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Bugay, as Celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Cardale, Pa.

A Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s name may be made to your local no kill animal shelter.
