Farmington New pet care center opens Nemacolin Woodlands Resort has announced the opening of Woodlands Animal Care Center, a full-service veterinary care center.

Woodlands Animal Care Center will serve the region as well as resort guests traveling with pets. According to a Nemacolin Woodlands press release, this latest offering reinforces the resort’s commitment to being a “Pet Proud Resort.”

Woodlands Animal Care Center hosted an opening celebration Nov. 22 with activities and contests throughout the day.

The event featured tours, complimentary photos with pets, entertainment and prizes. Pet food donations collected during the day benefit the Fayette County Humane Society and sales of hot dogs and beverages support the Dachshund Rescue of North America.

Woodlands Animal Care Center will serve as a complete hospital, canine rehabilitation facility and training center led by Dr. Stephanie Shepherd.

A veterinarian, Shepherd received her undergraduate degree from James Madison University and her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Iowa State University. She said the center will focus on the bond between people and animals in all realms of treatments, including pet wellness screenings, preventive medicine, dental care, routine surgeries, geriatric medicine and more.

Rehabilitation programs feature unique therapies using a canine underwater treadmill and a therapeutic whirlpool all contained within a 5,000-square-foot training and rehabilitation center.

The Woodlands Animal Care Center is located next to Nemacolin Wooflands, a pet resort and spa located on Route 40 in Wharton Township.

Chalk Hill Winery holds holiday homecoming

An old-fashioned Christmas homecoming will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Christian W. Klay Winery. The event will feature carols, light holiday fare, Santa Claus and activities for children of all ages. Also available will be a selection of wine and gourmet food, handcrafted baskets and giftware. Christian W. Klay wines will be available at the event and at a Uniontown Mall kiosk, from now until New Year’s Eve. The winery also operates a shop on Route 40 east and sells its product through Sarnelli’s Wine Cellar, at the intersection of Routes 711 and 31, and at the Pennsylvania Wine Cellar located at Station Square in Pittsburgh.

Uniontown Businesses team up for food drive

Bath Fitter, a bathroom remodeling company in the U.S, has joined forces with Shop ‘n’ Save and Save A-lot stores hosting a community food drive benefiting the Salvation Army. The Bath Fitter trailer will serve as the food drop location at various Shop ‘n’ Saves in West Virginia and Pennsylvania through the Christmas season.

All non-perishable food items will be accepted and greatly appreciated, a spokesman for Bath Fitters said.

The trailer will be at the Uniontown Shop ‘n’ Save on Walnut Hill Road through Thursday.

Blairsville Ebert elected farm group VP

Westmoreland County dairy farmer Richard “Rick” Ebert has been re-elected vice president of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau by delegates at the 59th annual meeting of the state’s largest farm organization. Ebert, who was elected to another two-year term, has served as Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) vice president since December 2004.

Ebert has many responsibilities as vice president, including chairing the State Dairy Committee and heading up the annual policy development process, which results in the setting of Farm Bureau policy on state and national farm issues.

Hundreds of farmers from across the state attended the annual meeting at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center to set policy for the statewide organization on issues affecting farm and rural families.
