Taking a toll
Here’s the toll the recession is taking on social service organizations like food banks and soup kitchens. The Washington Post reports the Nonprofit Finance Fund says 93 percent of nonprofits that provide “lifeline” services anticipated increased demand this year. However, only 16 percent thought they would have enough in their operating budgets in 2009 and 2010 to make ends meet.
In addition to that, if the economy has hit rock bottom – and that’s if it has – they can expect a rough road through 2011 because unemployment and wages are unlikely to bounce back as quickly as the economy.
Because of that, please give what you can in the coming weeks, months and years.
Without your sustained support, these lifelines will sink under the weight of the challenges they are currently facing.
