Church group launches used clothing outlet

2 min read

CONNELLSVILLE – With the downturn in the economy, many people are challenged to fill the basic needs of their families, according to a spokeswoman for Wesley Women, a missions-based group from Wesley United Methodist Church. With this in mind, Wesley Women has launched “Wesley Clothing Line,” a boutique offering good quality, slightly used clothing for men, women and children.

“We were deciding upon a mission that would benefit the community,” said Kay Cropp, member of Wesley Women. “We met with the Rev. Terry Guiste of Community Ministries. He suggested several ideas. The idea of the clothing shop was the most feasible.”

Cropp said that there is a need in the community for this kind of ministry. “Many people simply can’t afford to buy new clothing,” she said.

The boutique offers a full array of clothing, including jeans, coats and business suits. “We have over 600 items,” Cropp said. “People have donated very generously.”

Wesley Women will donate to Community Ministries 25 cents of every dollar. Other proceeds will be donated to the Wesley Health Center.

“It feels good to know that we’re helping others,” said Cropp. “This boutique will help us take our faith beyond the walls of the church.”

The boutique will have its grand opening at 9 a.m. Saturday. Afterwards, it will be open from 9 to 11:30 a.m. the first Saturday of every month.

The boutique is located in the bottom floor of Wesley United Methodist Church, 417 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, across from the Wesley Health Center.

For more information about the Wesley Clothing Line, call the Wesley United Methodist Church office at 724-628-7960 from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday.
