Republic man sentenced in robbery case

1 min read

A Republic man whose mother turned him in for bank robbery last year was sentenced to nine to 30 years in prison on Tuesday in Fayette County Court. James David Alborg, 41, was charged after his mother identified him from surveillance photos from the robberies of the First National Bank in North Union Township and the Parkvale Bank in Uniontown.

During the Parkvale robbery, which occurred on New Year’s Eve, police said Alborg made off with more than $1,000. Police allege that Alborg also robbed the bank inside the Giant Eagle supermarket on Jan. 13 and stole about $1,300.

Police said Alborg used a handgun during the course of that robbery.

When police released photos of Alborg, his mother, Roberta Alborg, reportedly came to police and told them that her son had recently bought a handgun and that she had seen him with large amounts of money.

Alborg, police said, told his mother he won the money playing the lottery.

Alborg pleaded guilty to the charges after a failed attempt to have incriminating statements he gave to police suppressed.
