1 min read

State police have identified the woman killed in a crash on Route 711 in Springfield Township on Thursday afternoon. Trooper Adam Hooks said Susan L. Rugg, 52, of Mill Run was killed when her sport utility vehicle and a logging truck collided at about 4:15 p.m.

Fayette County Deputy Coroner Jessie Langer pronounced Rugg dead at the scene at 6:20 p.m.

Langer said that no autopsy is planned and added that the official cause of death remains undetermined, pending toxicology tests.

Hooks said Rugg was traveling east on Route 711 when her vehicle and the loaded logging truck driven by Ronald Craig of Normalville collided.

Hooks said more than 100 gallons of fuel spilled from the logging truck, and the Fayette County hazardous-materials team was called to contain the spill and clean up the gasoline.

Emergency personnel from Fayette EMS, the coroner’s office and volunteer fire firefighters from Normalville, Mill Run, Saltlick Township and Connellsville Township assisted police at the scene.

Brooks Funeral Home in Melcroft is handling funeral arrangements.
