2 min read

McMURRAY – Pennsylvania American Water has announced the installation of new water lines and fire hydrants in its Uniontown and Brownsville districts during the fourth quarter of 2009. The system upgrades, valued at about $670,000, will improve service reliability and increase flows for firefighting. “The latest projects will replace aging and undersized pipe that dates as far back as the 1940s, ensuring that our customers receive quality, reliable water service for many years to come,” said Dave Gumbert, Pennsylvania American Water manager of field operations, southwest region.

The company serves about 18,000 customers in Fayette County.

Pennsylvania American Water is installing more than 7,200 feet of new pipe to replace outdated cast iron mains in the following areas:

n Brownsville, Slone Street and Short Street.

n Allison, East Avenue and Mine Road.

n Uniontown, Sylvanus Avenue.

n South Connellsville, McCormick Street.

Pennsylvania American Water expects the pipe installation and final paving restoration to be completed by the end of October.

Pennsylvania American Water’s latest investments come on the heels of last year’s estimated $1.5 million in local capital improvements, which included replacing nearly eight miles of aging water main within its districts.

The company will contact affected residents in advance in the event of temporary service interruptions.
