North Union man’s death probed
State police are investigating the death of a 45-year-old man found dead in his North Union Township home Tuesday. Sgt. James D. Caccimelio said the body of William James Holt Jr. of 116 Poplar St. was found in the living room of the Lemont Furnace home.
Caccimelio said the death has not been ruled suspicious but said police are conducting a thorough investigation to rule out any sign of foul play.
“We are trying to conduct a solid investigation as good and thorough as we possibly can,” he said.
According to Caccimelio, Holt’s parents found their son’s body around 1:15 p.m. when they came to check on him after not hearing from him for several days. Caccimelio said the parents last spoke to Holt on Thursday or Friday.
When Holt’s parents found the body they became alarmed and called for help, Caccimelio said.
A state police forensic unit scoured Holt’s home and vehicle for clues Tuesday afternoon as residents gathered in the street.
Yellow police tape encircled the duplex where Holt lived alone. Neighbors said Holt moved into the home in April or May and was friendly, mostly keeping to himself.
Officials said Holt suffered from medical problems.
Roger Victor, chief investigator for the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, said forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht will conduct an autopsy of Holt’s body today in Pittsburgh.
Caccimelio said police are awaiting the results of the autopsy.
