Richard Edward Householder
Richard Edward Householder, 82, of Malden, Centerville Borough, died Sunday, October 4, 2009. He was born Sunday, November 21, 1926, in Elizabeth, Pa., a son of the late Edward E. and Evelyn (Groves) Householder.
Richard retired as Area Chief of the Monongahela River after 42 years of service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. Richard attended the California State College and was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #636 in Brownsville for many years. He was a member and a past president of the board of trustees of the South Brownsville United Methodist Church. He was a member of Monongahela Valley Lodge No. 461 F & AM of Pennsylvania, Valley of Pittsburgh Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Herminie Council #196 Juniors, O.U.A.M. He was also a former member of South Brownsville Fire Company and member of the Charleroi Elks. Richard enjoyed playing golf and was a member of several golf leagues in Pennsylvania and Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Householder.
Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Audrey (Sager) Householder, and their three children, R. Scott Householder and wife, Sherry, of Brownsville; Gary Householder and wife, Laurie, of Elizabeth Township; and Holly Stack and husband, Philip, of Olney, MD. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian Householder, Rachel Householder, Amy Householder, and Kali Bowen; his sister, Gayle Prentice, of Wichita, KS; sisters-in-law Esther Householder of Oakland, MD, Donna Thompson of Zelienople, PA, and Francine Sager of Torrance, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME, INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, Pa., today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and until 11 a.m. on Thursday, when funeral services will be held in the funeral home with the Rev. David Chinn officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the South Brownsville United Methodist Church, 412 Second St., Brownsville, PA 15417.
The Monongahela Valley Lodge 461 F&AM of Pennsylvania will accord services this evening at 7:30 p.m.
