Theodore Kovalchick 88, of Charleroi (Fallowfield Twp.) died Wednesday October 7, 2009 in Jefferson Hospital. He was born May 28, 1921 in California, Pa., a son of the late Timothy and Eva (Pasterchuk) Kovalchick.

Mr. Kovalchick was a 1939 graduate of East Pike High School and a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic.

He had been employed by Lee-Norris Inc. of Charleroi as a mechanic and later foreman of assembly for over 41 years before retiring in 1985. He was a lifelong active member of the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church of California, Pa. where he also had served as secretary/treasurer.

Mr. Kovalchick was also a member of the John F. Kennedy American Legion of California, Pa., a charter member of the Young Men’s Club of California and was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He is survived by a son, John Harrison and wife Teresa of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a daughter, Judith Greenway of Bentleyville; a brother, John Kovalchick of Bel Air, Md.; a sister, Martha Wrublesky of Monaca, Pa.; five grandchildren: Mary Ellen Greenway, Karen Caldwell, Jennifer Molek, John Harrison and Lisa Rudy; nine great grandchildren: Ryan and Laura Wahlstrom, Christian Vivos, Julia and Jessica Price, Jonathan Molek, Matthew and Elizabeth Harrison, Katelyn Rudy and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents is his wife, Helen McMahonHarrison Kovalchick who died September 29, 1987, three brothers, Simeon, Harry, and Vladimir Kovalchick, and four sisters, Lucy Peters, Katherine Pascoe, Anna Garnic and Mary Fritz.

Friends will be received from 2 – 8 p.m. Friday in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 619 Main St., Bentleyville where friends will gather Saturday October 10, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in California, Pa. with Reverend Stephan Romanchak officiating.

A Parastas Service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
