Vra Mae Stanley
Vra Mae Haney Stanley, 84, of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania was called home to be with the Lord on October 7, 2009. Born October 12, 1924 in Centerville, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Susie and Daniel Haney.
In addition to her parents, Vra was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Stanley, Sr., three children, Leroy A. Stanley, Jr., Ervin DeLance Stanley, Susie Elaine Stanley, and three siblings, William Haney, John (J.W.) Haney and Eddie Pearl Robinson.
Vra migrated North in the late 1930’s settling in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania with her parents along with her brothers and sister.
She graduated from the Poro Beauty Academy after which she secured employment in Monessen, Pennsylvania where she met her beloved late husband Leroy Stanley Sr. They shared 48 years of marriage, six children and one adopted daughter. Vra was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as President of the Women’s Home and Foreign Missionary Society, Superintendent and Teacher of the Sunday School and a member of the choir. She was Mother of the YWBA, Past President of the Women’s Home in Foreign Mission Convention, Treasurer of the Ushers Convention, Teacher and Registrar for the Congress of Christian Education, President of the Faculty Club, served on the Finance Committee for the Lott Carey Convention, an active member of Star of Bethlehem Chapter 34 O.E.S.P.H.A. and member of the Mon Valley N.A.A.C.P. serving on the ExecutiveBoard
She is survived by her loving children: Daniel F, Stanley of Hampton, Virginia, Gwendolyn Stanley and Vera Lorraine Stanley both of Belle Vernon; one daughter-in-law Sharon Stahl-Stanley, Arizona; adopted daughter, Stephanie Workman of North Carolina; brother, Roddy (wife Vivian) Haney of Warrner Robbins, Georgia; two sisters-in-laws: Earlean Stanley-Grogan of Temple Hills, Maryland and Dorothy Stanley of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Family and Friends will be received today, October 11, from 2 to 8 p.m. at ANTIOCH BAPTIST CHURCH, 945 Henry Street, Belle Vernon, where Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Clifford Carter officiating the Homegoing Service.
Interment will take place at the Mon Valley Memorial Park in Donora, Pennsylvania.
