Man charged with stabbing son with sword
A Belle Vernon man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly used a sword to stab his son in the buttocks during a fight over vacuum cleaning. Southwest Regional police Officer Gregory Smith said Ronald Cinkan Sr., 48, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment following the incident Tuesday afternoon.
Police Chief John D. Hartman said the fight began shortly after 4 p.m. as Cinkan was vacuuming in the living room of his home on Johnston Street.
Hartman said that as Cinkan vacuumed, he allegedly bumped into his 17-year-old son’s foot. The teen then pushed his father, Hartman said.
“He thought his dad did it intentionally, so he took exception to it,” Hartman said. “So dad then reaches behind the curio cabinet, pulls out a Samurai sword, and stabs him in the butt.”
Hartman said the teen then struck his father in the face and then bent the tempered steel blade in half before police arrived and officers seized the weapon.
The boy, who was not identified, was cited for harassment for his role in the fight in Fayette County Juvenile Court.
He suffered a minor “moon-shaped” wound to his buttocks and was treated at a hospital, Hartman said.
He said that there is a basic lesson to be learned from the incident.
“You simply do not bring a sword, or any type of weapon, into a domestic argument,” Hartman said.
Cinkan is free on $5,000 unsecured bond.
A preliminary hearing for Cinkan will be held at a later date before Cramer.
Hartman said that he contacted Fayette County Children and Youth Services and that until the matter is resolved Cinkan is not permitted to have contact with his son.
