Nelda (Kern) Graham, 85 of Connellsville, Pa., died Friday, October 16, 2009 in the Guardian Angels Country Care Home, Jones Mills. She was born February 2, 1924 in Connellsville, the youngest c h i l d of George and Minnie (Morris) K e r n.

Mrs. Graham was a founding member of the Church of the Open Door, Connellsville, where she was very active for nearly 50 years. She was a Sunday School teacher, song leader, soloist and choir member. She was a graduate of the Faith Bible Institute in 1976.

Nelda was an accomplished artist, seamstress and was famous for her perfect pies and cookies and she sang at many weddings and funerals.

She was a 1941 graduate of Connellsville High School.

She is survived by her husband James “Art” Graham with whom she would have celebrated 6 4 years of marriage in January 2010; her children: Kathy Soliday and her husband Chuck of Connellsville, James Graham of Connellsville, John Graham and his wife Kim of Hampton, Va., Guy Graham and his partner Keith Blomstrom of Butte, Mont. and Jeanette “Renee” McCuen and her husband Wayne of West Newton; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Matthew Ruff and his wife Heather and their son Brandon “BJ” of Connellsville, Tonya Graham and son Robbie Boyer of Milford, Del, Mike Graham and his wife Wendy and their sons: Damien, Austin, Nesta and Dominic of Yorktown, Va., Caran Hayes and her husband Chris and their sons: Ben and Alex of Pittsburgh, Robyn Graham and fiance’ Donn Troctschel of Pittsburgh, Kate Smith and her husband Larry of Smock and Betsy McCuen and Philip McCuen of West Newton; her sisters: Dorothy Jean Love and Floretta “Midge” Bradley, both of Connellsville and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a great granddaughter Tara Jane Ruff in 1996, her brothers, Clyde, Roy and George “Bud” Kern and her sisters, Katherine Swan and Laurene Stewart.

Friends will be received from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the CHURCH OF THE OPEN DOOR, Connellsville with Rev. Kenneth Broughman officiating. (Everyone Please Go Directly To The Church!)

Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bonnie, Chrissie, Lenora, Renee and Traci and Brian Singer at the Guardian Angels Country Care Home and to the nurses, aides and Chaplin Fred Bauer from Medi Home Hospice for their care and concern for Nelda during her stay there.
