Warrant issued in shooting case
State police have issued a felony warrant for the arrest of a Uniontown man accused of firing a handgun into an occupied home Saturday in South Union Township. Trooper John F. Marshall said Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. charged Cornell Dante Neal, 20, of 29 Wayne St. with criminal attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and criminal mischief.
According to Marshall, the warrant was secured after Neal, also known as NEZ, allegedly went to the home of Carla Jean Fordyce to assault her.
Marshall said Neal and Fordyce became involved in a confrontation outside her apartment on Tuskegee Terrace and that Neal had a handgun on him during the scuffle.
During the fight, Neal threw Fordyce into a car owned by Yvonne Ross of Uniontown, causing damage to the vehicle.
Marshall said that Fordyce then began shouting for help and that Anthony Marquette Hunter, also of South Union Township, came to her aid and fought with Neal.
After Hunter assumed the fight was over, he told police that he and Fordyce were walking back into Fordyce’s apartment when Neal began firing multiple rounds towards them and into the residence.
Marshall said one of the rounds went through the storm door of Fordyce’s apartment as Hunter was closing it. He said the bullet lodged in a kitchen wall.
Marshall said that in addition to Hunter and Fordyce, three children younger than the age of 5 and four other people were inside the apartment during the shooting.
No one was injured as a result of the gunfire.
Marshall said police recovered multiple spent shell casings at the scene.
Police described Neal as black, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 140 pounds.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.
