Churches plan special harvest season activities
During this harvest season, several local churches are providing safe opportunities for youths to have fun. Calvary Apostolic Church, Rolling Hills Estate Road, Uniontown, is offering a Fallnominal Night from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, when the church will host a “trunk-or-treat” free for youths. The church will have decorated cars parked in their parking lot with the trunks open so that youths can go trick-or-treating, lending itself to the name trunk-or-treat. Friendly costumes are welcome.
The event will also include games, prizes, food and hayrides available for a nominal price. Proceeds will support the creation of a new youth room.
“This is an outreach effort to the community and a safe environment for the kids,” said Belinda Smith, who co-chairs the event with Virginia Mirandy.

Meanwhile, Bread of Life Church, located at the corner of Connellsville and Bouquet streets in Uniontown, will offer Fire By Night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The event will take place in the church parking lot, weather permitting, and include a concert by Renegades for God, a Christian contemporary band from Lower Burrell, as well as dramas, cookies and punch and a bonfire. There is no charge for this event.
Kelley Broadwater, event chairwoman, said the youth group Souled Out will perform a drama that reveals people living in turmoil but “shows there is hope in desperate situations.”
Participants are asked to bring a chair and a blanket. The event is open to anyone who would like to come, Broadwater said.

Calvary Chapel of Fredericktown is hosting a Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31, immediately following the East Bethlehem Township Halloween Parade at 5 p.m. Children participating in the parade in Fredericktown will be invited to the Harvest Festival, which will be held at the fire department, where they will enjoy carnival games, a clown and free food that includes popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, nachos and drink at no charge.
In addition, Daniel Caron, children’s pastor, will share a Gospel message with the children and provide musical entertainment.
Tricia Blatnik, event chairwoman, said, “We want to embrace the community to share the love of Jesus.”
Although times are difficult and many people are living under stress, Blatnik believes that Christ can provide an answer.
She said, “If we can hang onto him, we’ll make it through.”
