Greene County Education Center holds celebration

The Greene County Education Center of Westmoreland County Community College will commemorate a decade of providing educational services to Greene County residents with an anniversary celebration scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the center in EverGreene Park, Waynesburg. A brief program will include remarks by WCCC President Daniel J. Obara; Pam Snyder, Greene County Commission chairwoman; Donald Painter, former superintendent; Dr. Patrick Gerity, WCCC vice president for continuing education, workforce and community development; Dr. Kathleen Malloy, dean of Health Professions; Leyla Olecki-Eddy, Greene County Education Center (GCEC) coordinator; and Dr. Nancy Davis, GCEC workforce development coordinator.

Three Greene County Center graduates will speak on their college experiences and their accomplishments since graduation including Donna Brown, Heather Lowther and Patricia Filer.

Invited guests include Greene County commissioners, state representatives, superintendents, career and technology center directors, business and community leaders.

The Greene County Center first offered classes for 64 students at the Greene County Vocational-Technical School in September 1999.

This fall, more than 200 students are enrolled at the center in EverGreene Technology Park, which opened in October 2006.
