Uniontown Work ranked ninth in U.S. Work Land and Cattle Co., Uniontown, is ranked as ninth largest in registering the most Angus beef cattle in Pennsylvania. Work recorded 48 head of Angus with the American Angus Association during fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, according to Bryce Schumann, CEO of the American Angus Association.
Angus breeders across the nation in 2009 registered 282,911 head of Angus cattle.
“Our year-end statistics continue to demonstrate strong demand for Angus genetics and solidify our long-held position as a leader in the beef cattle industry,” Schumann said.
“These results underscore our members’ commitment to providing genetic solutions to the beef cattle industry.”
The American Angus Association, headquartered in St. Joseph, Mo., is the largest beef registry association in the world in terms of both annual registrations and active members.

California Small business owners invited to workshop
Owners of small businesses involved with technology and innovation can learn how to obtain federal funding at a free workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 3 in the Kara Alumni House at California University of Pennsylvania. Reservations are required to attend “Show Me the Money! SBIR/STTR: The Basics.”
Greg Rice of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Pittsburgh, will explain how to qualify for funding through SBIR and STTR, the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Center programs.
Both programs are administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration through its Office of Technology. Through these two competitive programs, the SBA ensures that the nation’s small, high-tech, innovative businesses are a significant part of the federal government’s research and development efforts.
The workshop will focus on:
n Steps for applying for federal SBIR research.
n Pre-qualification issues for potential participants.
n Proposal-writing tips for making your innovation stand out.
n Strategies for making your technology appeal to funding providers.
n An overview of participating agencies.
The workshop is free, but space is limited; reservations were required by Friday.

Pittsburgh Grocer offers ‘Perks Online’
Locally owned and independently operated grocer Shop ‘n Save has announced its new Shop ‘n Save Perks Online, which will be the grocer’s completely clip-less and all-digital coupon service.
Customers who are existing Perks card members will be able to log on to www.shopnsavefood.com, register for Shop ‘n Save Perks Online by updating their personal profile, and begin saving on groceries while continuing to save on gas. Perks Online enables shoppers to get coupons that they want, on the items they buy most, by digitally saving coupons to their card. The savings will automatically be deducted at checkout – without clipping.
Uniontown Boyle is new ADT sales representative
Jonathan Boyle is the new ADT Security sales representative in the Uniontown area. Jonathan grew up on Highland Avenue in Uniontown, where his mother Tammy and father Jack still reside. He is a graduate of Uniontown High School and attained a degree from Penn State University before moving to Pittsburgh and taking a job with ADT Security in July.
