Shopping extravaganza

Masontown news All Saints Regional School will hold Ladies’ Night Out – Shopping Extravaganza fund-raising event Nov. 3 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the All Saints Social Hall in Masontown. Vendors are donating 20 percent of their revenue from the evening to the school and an item for the chinese auction. The admission is $2, which includes one chinese auction ticket.

The night’s festivities will include shopping, a food and refreshment stand, a door prize raffle, a chinese auction, a 50/50 drawing and an authentic sports jersey raffle. From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., there will be contemporary Christian music performed by Fiat. For more information, call the school at 724-583-2141.

Community Kitchen

The next Masontown Community Kitchen meal will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The meal will be roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, Panera breads and homemade desserts. The Community Kitchen is the result of the combined efforts and generosity of organizations and individuals in Masontown and the surrounding area who volunteer their time for the soup kitchen. Volunteers are an essential part of the soup kitchen. To schedule a time to volunteer or to make a contribution, call Kathy West at 724-583-9514 or Betty Crable at 724-583-7464.

The Community Kitchen is held in the First Presbyterian Church at 102 W. Church Ave. Meals are served every other Tuesday. There you will find social and spiritual fellowship and hospitality. All meals are free to everyone. Freewill donations are gratefully accepted and are used for future meals. Those attending are asked to invite someone who is in need of a meal to attend.

Pal’s Ladies Auxiliary

The Pal’s ladies auxiliary covered-dish dinner will be held Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. The group is also holding an adult Halloween party on Oct. 31 beginning at 9 p.m. Each member may bring one guest and admission is free. A disc jockey will be provided. Guests are asked to wear costumes to add to the fun.

The Pals’ Ladies Christmas party will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 and will be held at the Diamond Ballroom. Each member will receive an invitation in the mail and must call with a reservation by Nov. 29. The cost is $5.

Turkey bingo

The Pal’s Ladies Auxiliary will hold a turkey bingo at 2 p.m. Nov. 8. Admission is $3 each and extra cards will be available for only $1. The public is invited to this event.

YWBA Choir Concert

The Youghiogheny Western Baptist Benefit Mass Choir will hold its 12th musical concert at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the YWBA Christian Center, Duck Hollow Road, Uniontown.

The Rev. William C. Callaway, pastor of Mount Olive First Baptist Church, Clairton, is the master of ceremonies. The Rev. Clifford Carter, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, Belle Vernon, is the moderator, and Joyce Tracy of the Beulah Baptist Church, Smithfield, is the chairperson and director of the choir.

The service will include a memorial tribute for Loretta Green-Wiley, Catherine Amos, Lugene Radcliff and Vra Stanley. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased at the door. The public is invited.

Cash bash

A cash bash benefiting the Albert Gallatin Senior High baseball league and Little Knights baseball league will be held Nov. 7 at the VFW, 115 River Ave., Masontown. Doors open at 6 p.m. and drawings start at 7. Tickets are on sale now for $20. Free food and refreshments are included with each admission ticket.

Roast beef dinner

All Saints Church will celebrate its parish feast day on Nov. 1 by hosting a roast beef dinner at the parish social hall from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friends and neighbors are invited to attend. Menu includes an open-face roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, salad, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under age 12. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a chance to win a fall gift basket and a Christmas gift basket. Take-out orders will be available.

Toy bash

The Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department will hold a toy bash Nov. 7. Tickets are $5 each, and food and refreshments are included in the ticket price. Doors open at noon, and drawings start at 1 p.m. Participants must be 16 years of age for admittance and have a ticket. Winners need not be present to claim prizes. Winners will be notified. Community Day booklets

The Friends of the German-Masontown Library are selling Community Day booklets for Bon Ton’s Community Day 2009, which will be held Nov. 14. The booklet is $5 but contains a $10 coupon plus many other percent-off coupons inside. Booklets are available at the library or by calling Friend’s president, Donna Parish, at 724-583-2812.

Fayette Forward

The Fayette County 10-year strategic plan revision is under way. This is an opportunity to get involved in Masontown. The public may tell about what they value, what they see in the future and what is needed in the community. The community meeting will be held in Masontown from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the VFW on River Avenue.

Craft show

The Albert Gallatin Area High School Class of 2010 post prom committee will hold an indoor holiday craft show on Nov. 7 in the high school cafeteria. (Exhibitors may also be placed throughout the hallways near the cafeteria.) Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day and food and beverage items will be available for purchase. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Class of 2010 post prom.

Appreciation noted

The students and staff of the George Plava Elementary thanks the management and staff of the McDonald’s on Matthew Drive and parents, friends and relatives who helped make McTeacher Night a success. It was a fun evening with all the proceeds being donated to the “Sparkle” campaign.

First Saturday

The German-Masontown Public Library presents “First Saturday” from 10 to 11 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month. Children in the first through third grades are invited for a story or video time, followed by a craft project and educational enrichment activities. Each session focuses on that month’s theme.

Friends of the Cemetery

The Friends of the Masontown Cemetery will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Masontown Pizza Hut. Anyone interested in helping to preserve this local landmark is invited to attend.

Hunting safety class

The German-Masontown Public Library will sponsor a hunter’s safety class led by Frank Maykuth on Nov. 4, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Call or visit the library to register.

Costume ball

The Uniontown Senior Citizen’s Monthly Dance will be a Halloween Costume Ball. The dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday at the Uniontown VFW Post 47, West Main Street. Dave Dahl’s Orchestra will perform square, round and line dance music, as well as polkas and waltzes. The dance committee is providing refreshments and door prizes. Costumes are optional. Pete Porreca is post commander. Kassie DeWalt is the dance chairperson.

Spaghetti dinner

The Footedale Volunteer Fire Department will hold a spaghetti dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at the fire hall. Cost is $5. Tickets will be sold at the door. Containers will be available for take-out orders. A Chinese auction will also be held. For tickets or information, call 724-245-6295 or 724-317-9883. Proceeds benefit Jonathan A. (Jon-Jon) Kondrla Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor of an 18-year-old junior firefighter who was fatally injured May 2 in an automobile accident in which he was a passenger. He would have been a senior at Albert Gallatin High School this year.
