Annual Halloween parade tomorrow

The 72nd annual Uniontown Halloween parade will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Sponsored by Veterans of Foreign War Post 47 in Uniontown, radio stations Froggy 94.9 and The Pickle 99.3 and Centra Bank, the parade will begin at the intersection of Gallatin Avenue and Penn Street, near City Hall.

The parade will continue south on Gallatin Avenue, turn west onto Main Street and end at Veterans or Foreign Wars Post 47 hall on West Main Street, where a costume contest will be held.

People dressed in costume who will march in the parade, and those walking with a float, are asked to line up on Penn Street at 5:15 p.m.

Bands will line up on East Penn Street.

High school bands scheduled to march in the parade include Uniontown Area, Laurel Highlands, Brownsville Area and Frazier.

The Laurel Highlands Middle School and the Ben Franklin Junior High School marching bands also will march in the parade, as will the VFW Post 47 Band.

Mummers and people accompanying floats will march between the bands.

Lou Giachetti, a lifetime member of the VFW, will serve as grand marshal.

Cash prizes for the best costumes and floats will be awarded in each age group, with age groups ranging from newborn to adult.

Prizes for best overall costume and best overall float also will be awarded.

In addition to the costume contest, mummers will receive tickets for two cash drawings and a variety of door prizes. Froggy and Pickle will emcee the event.

Political advertising is not permitted in the parade.
