Funding workshop to aid small businesses CALIFORNIA – Owners of small businesses involved with technology and innovation can learn how to obtain federal funding at a free workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Kara Alumni House at California University of Pennsylvania. Reservations are required to attend “Show Me the Money! SBIR/STTR: The Basics.”
Greg Rice of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Pittsburgh, will explain how to qualify for funding through SBIR and STTR, the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Center programs.
Both programs are administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration through its Office of Technology. Through these two competitive programs, the SBA ensures that the nation’s small, high-tech, innovative businesses are a significant part of the federal government’s research and development efforts.
The workshop will focus on:
n Steps for applying for federal SBIR research.
n Pre-qualification issues for potential participants.
n Proposal-writing tips for making your innovation stand out.
n Strategies for making your technology appeal to funding providers.
n An overview of participating agencies.
The workshop is free, but space is limited.
